Jailed: Woman who set fire to Premier Inn after boyfriend dumped her

A woman has been jailed for 32 months for setting fire to a Premier Inn hotel in Wales after being 'callously' dumped by her boyfriend.

Georgina Tranter, 26, from Narbeth, received sentencing at Swansea Crown Court on Friday 24 July.

The court heard how her boyfriend at the time, William Harman, had jilted her while at a black tie event.

She reportedly went back to the Premier Inn Haverfordwest but couldn't get into her room.

Police dropped her home after she became abusive.

However, drunk and high on cocaine, Georgina went to her mother's house, where she took her mum's car and a petrol canister back to the hotel.

Wales Online reports that Nicola Powell, prosecuting, said: "She took the keys to her mother's Peugeot car without her mother's knowledge, took a petrol canister from a lawn mower and drove back to the Premier Inn where she doused the fire escape door with petrol and set it alight."

A total of 133 guests were evacuated at 6.30am, and the blaze was put out by a firefighter staying at the hotel.

According to the Mirror, Tranter was arrested soon after by police at a garage near the hotel. She admitted arson being reckless as to whether life would be endangered and has been remanded in custody for the past seven months.

According to the BBC, Judge Peter Heywood said she had been jilted in a "somewhat brutal and callous way" but that did not excuse her behaviour. He told her: "You were clearly unhinged at being jilted."

Tranter, a refinery lab technician, will also likely lose her job. James Jenkins, defending, said: "An arsonist cannot return to testing petroleum spirit."
