Dozens of families were forced off a beach in Scotland after 5,500 rowdy teens descended on it for a party.

The large group turned up at Troon beach, in Ayrshire, and there were reports of fighting, drug taking, and even couples having sex in bushes behind the sand.

Two 17-year-old boys were arrested and charged with assault after a beach brawl.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Police Scotland said: "Officers are aware of this incident which did take place at Troon Beach on 3 July 2015 at around 17.15pm. Enquiries are ongoing."

The Ayrshire Post reports that most of the teens made their way to Troon by train from Glasgow.

According to the Daily Star, a train inspector from Scotrail said: "They swarmed on in their thousands, shouting, swearing and intimidating passengers.

"They've got no respect for anybody else."

South Ayrshire Police tweeted about the incident.

The Daily Record reports that residents also had to call paramedics after finding teens lying comatose in the local streets.

Troon councillor Peter Convery told the paper: "There was a lot of concern by locals and others who came to visit the beach and enjoy a nice day out.

"I understand how threatening it would have been.

"An element have spoiled it for everybody.

"I was incredibly proud of the way the police handled it, they acted professionally and dealt with what needed to be dealt with."
