A boyband member has collapsed from heat exhaustion on a plane - because he was wearing 12 layers of clothes.

James McElvar, who is a member of Scottish band Rewind, layered up to avoid having to pay an excess luggage fee.

The band was flying from London to Glasgow with Easyjet when McElvar temporarily lost consciousness after a bout of violent vomiting .

According to the Sun, the 19-year-old singer was wearing two jackets, four jumpers, six T-shirts, three pairs of jeans, two pairs of jogging bottoms and two hats.

Passengers flying with Easyjet are allowed to travel with one item of cabin baggage with a maximum size of 56 x 45 x 25cm. During the booking process, those wanting to check in baggage will be charged a further £12 - £22 per bag depending on the flight and route.

If you arrive at the airport and wish to check in a bag you will be charged £32 at the bag drop area or £45 at the gate.

The singer obviously made it through to boarding the plane before realising he would be required to check his bag in.

But instead of handing over the requested £45 charge, McElvar decided it made more sense to pile on all of his clothes.

James said: "The woman told me either one of my bags went in the hold or we weren't getting on.

"The rest of the band had gone through so I couldn't give them any of my clothes."

According to ITV, a statement from Easyjet confirmed that the singer had been given the chance to put all his luggage in one bag or pay the fee.

It said: "During the flight Mr McElvar became unwell and our crew onboard assisted him. We wish him a speedy recovery."

The five-piece band, who have just signed to Roar Global, have supported acts including Little Mix, Conor Maynard and Pixie Lott.

The band confirmed on Twitter that James has recovered from the incident.
