Lifeguard spots drowning child in packed pool (video)

A lifeguard managed to spot a child that was in trouble - in the middle of a pool packed with people and inflatables.

The video shows how difficult it can be to spot somebody who is getting into trouble.

The eagle-eyed lifeguard spots that a child has fallen out of his inflatable ring and is subsequently struggling.

She blows her whistle and immediately jumps into the rescue.

The moment was caught on camera and has been uploaded to Lifeguard Rescue's YouTube channel as a training tool. It has been viewed nearly a million times.

According to the Irish Examiner, the caption reads: "I encourage you to use these videos as training tools to show new and returning guards what someone in distress or drowning looks like.

"I play these videos at trainings and go over common problems in our pools and similar traits our guests exhibit when they are in trouble in the water.

"I also use them to have the guards tell me when they would go in for a rescue. I get some really great reactions."

The Mirror reports that the World Health Organisation reports drowning as the third leading cause of all unintentional injury death worldwide.

The paper adds that men and children are at the most risk of drowning, according to statistics.
