Not for nothing has New Zealand been voted the world's best tourist destination three years in a row. This is a country of stunning natural beauty, and visitors to the area leave with memories that will stay with them for life. It's one of the most popular holiday destinations among British travellers - and it's not hard to see why.

This video shows a side of the country that many travellers on a tight schedule may miss. New Zealand's South Island often gets the lion's share of the attention, but North Island also features a wonderful combination of forests, mountains and beaches. Visitors here can spend hours wandering through the accessible wilderness of the Coromandel Peninsula, while day trips from vibrant Auckland can include all sorts of outdoor activities including kayaking to dormant volcanoes or canyoning and abseiling down forested waterfalls.

The footage, taken by traveller Kartikeya Sharma on a recent visit to North Island, showcases just some of the beauty of the area. Sharma says he was on a pre-planned schedule and didn't have many opportunities to venture out. When he did get the chance to explore, he captured enough footage for a very memorable time lapse.
