Cornwall's beaches are the best in Britain

It's official: Cornwall's beaches have been voted the most beautiful in Britain.

New research has found that 28 per cent of Brits think England's westernmost county has the best beaches, followed by Pembrokeshire - home to Britain's only coastal national park - with 21 per cent.

The Isle of Skye, famous for its cliffs, lochs and distinctive rock pinnacles, came top of the list in Scotland, with 11.5 per cent of the vote followed by Orkney Islands (9 per cent) and Shetland Islands 7 per cent.

An incredible 92 per cent of us are planning a trip to the beach at some point this summer and 34 per cent of these will be looking to go on an extended break/ Tom Lowes of holiday company Sykes Cottages, which carried out the research, said: "With the great selection of activities and accommodation, the Great British beach break is really experiencing a resurgence."
