A British tourist has died in Morocco after falling off a cliff in Tangier.

Charlie Norton, an adventurer and former journalist, was on an early morning walk to watch the sunrise when he plunged to his death.

The Sun reports that he has left behind a wife and two young children.

Relatives told reporters outside Mr Norton's family home in Dorset that they are going through a "very difficult time".

A man, who gave his name as Hamish, said: "All I can say is that things are slightly worse than you can imagine in terms of coping.

"It is a very difficult time. Things are very raw here."

The Daily Mail reports that investigations are taking place into how the accident happened after Mr Norton's body was found at the foot of a cliff last weekend.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We can confirm the death of a British national in Tangier on June 7.

"We are still providing consular assistance and we have been asked by the family not to release any further details."
