Stansted Airport is Britain's second highest crime hotspot

Stansted Airport has been revealed as the second biggest crime hotspot in England and Wales.

Data released by the Home Office reveals that a total of 102 crimes were recorded at the airport in April.

The research detailed the top 50 crime hotspots, and Stansted was one of three airport postcodes in the list.

A Gatwick Airport terminal popped up at number 17, while a Gatwick car park came in at number 39.

In at number 50 was Birmingham Airport. But the worst spot for crime? Meridian Square in Newham, London, where police recorded more than one offence every five hours in April, reports ITV News.

The Herts and Essex Observer reports that the list was compiled by the Mirror newspaper, and also saw shopping centres like London's Westfield Shopping Centre and Kent's Bluewater.

Stansted was the only postcode in Essex and Herts on the list, and the Cambridge News happily reported there were no areas from Cambridgeshire named and shamed.
