Bizarre clumps of earth worms have been found on a park road in Texas - and no one knows how they got there.

More than 30 piles of worms were found scattered down the centre of the road but the park's entomologist says there is no obvious reason for the worms to have suddenly appeared.

There has been heavy rain and flooding in the Eisenhower State Park recently and some people think this may be the reason.

It's thought that the vibrations caused by rain droplets may have led the worms to believe underground predators were approaching.

It could also be that the worms have grouped together for protection.

According to experts, they will maintain their slimy exterior if they rub together and it's also a lot easier for them to communicate when they are close to each other.

The worms could be seen on the road for two days before they returned to their underground habitat as flood waters dropped.

In March this year Norway witnessed equally bizarre scenes as bad weather left earth worms apparently falling from the skies.

According to the BBC, the worms begin to emerge from the ground as winter ends but they were swept up into the air and then gradually began to fall back to earth again.
