London leads the world on excellence for tourists
London leads the world in its number of award-winning tourist businesses, according to assessments by TripAdvisor.
As many as 3,210 of the UK capital's hotels, restaurants and attractions qualified for TripAdvisor's 2015 certificate of excellence.
This was a greater number than for any other world city, beating Rome, with 2,763 certificates, Paris (2,760) and New York (2,307). WORDS: AOL.
The certificates were awarded on the basis of the quality, quantity and immediacy of reviews by world travellers over a 12-month period.
A total of 454 accommodation outlets in London got excellence certificates as well as 2,198 places to eat and 558 attractions.
The next-highest rated destination in the UK was Edinburgh with 732 certificates, with Glasgow third on 457, Blackpool fourth on 351 and Manchester fifth with 323.
Other destinations in the UK top 10 were: Liverpool with 318, Bristol with 295, York with 291, Birmingham with 277 and Brighton with 244.
In total, 40,464 hospitality businesses in the UK got certificates this year - up from 31,325 in 2014.
