British family stranded in Benidorm after mum gives birth to baby early

A couple's baby was born 12 weeks early while they were on holiday in Spain, leaving them stranded in the country.

Karla Hornby and Jordan Jackson, from Bolton, headed to Benidorm for their "final relax" before the arrival of their baby when Karla's waters broke.

She was taken to hospital in Alicante where she gave birth to son Freddie.

He weighed just 2lbs and has been under close observation at the hospital since.

Speaking to Manchester Evening News, Jordan said: "When her waters broke I didn't know what to think, I just rang an ambulance straight away. I couldn't get in with her so I had to get a taxi, it was one of the most nerve wracking experiences of my life, my mind and heart were racing."

Karla, 29, said Freddie is "doing well".

According to the BBC, her insurers have agreed to pay medical costs and for a hotel.

But Karla, who has to use a wheelchair, says the accommodation is too far.

Her friend Lisa Johnston has set up a fundraising page to help with the couple pay for a hotel closer to the hospital and their living costs.

Writing on the page, Lisa said: "Any donation will be muchly appreciated to help with transport costs, accommodation and General living costs for Karla and Jordan."
