Driver caught going 140mph with child in front seat
A motorist has been charged after he was filmed speeding at 140mph with a young boy in the front seat.
Mert Tanay, 26, from Enfield, was seen weaving in and out of traffic on the M20 in Kent and reached speeds of up to 140mph.
According to the Daily Telegraph, he overtook an unmarked police car while going at 90mph in his BMW 323.
His speed increased to 115mph, before hitting 140mph.
Officers discovered a "shaken" young boy in the front seat when they pulled Tanay over in Ashford on 28 September last year.
Tanya appeared at Canterbury Crown Court on 19 March and was banned for three years from driving. He was also sentenced to 50 hours' unpaid work.
According to the Dover Express, Sergeant Chris Wade of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "The speed and manner of Mert Tanay's driving in this case showed a complete disregard for the safety of other road users, not to mention that of his young passenger who looked very shaken by his experience.
"Tanay's actions on what is a busy motorway fell far below what would be expected of a competent and careful driver."
