The world's most colourful beaches
Ever seen a green sand beach? How about a pink one? At the world's most colourful beaches, you can sink your toes in unique sands offering a beach holiday you're unlikely to find anywhere else.
Some of these public beaches are secluded and difficult to reach but once you arrive on their stunning sands you will be glad you made the trip. The dramatic cliffs of Hawaii, for example, hide some of the most unusual beaches on the plant, such as olive-coloured Papakolea (pictured). Visitors to the islands can also stroll along a black beach and red sand cove Kaihalulu. The varied beaches on the islands are created by a range of natural phenomena, including lava from erupting volcanoes flowing into the ocean and semi-precious gems crushed into the fine sand.
Meanwhile, the Guinness World Record for the whitest beach on Earth goes to a powder-soft strip in Australia. America's best beach is a close second for its famous coastal spot in Florida having some of the world's whitest sand.
Across the pond, you will also find a quirky beach made from multi-coloured glass and another which turns purple after a storm.
