Motorists faced long queues as the huge loads slowly made their way towards the M4 and took up the entire southbound lane for more than an hour.

According to the Swindon Advertiser, Wiltshire Police were present to make sure the load was transported safely and managed the traffic.

A spokesman for Wiltshire police told the Bristol Post: "Due to the size of these transporters they will be slow moving and will have the potential to create congestion.

"Wherever possible disruption will be kept to a minimum but hauliers and motorists are asked to please be patient if they come across this load."

Each 60-tonne transporter measured 22ft wide and 137ft long.
