Male bus driver told he's 'pregnant' after giving urine sample for drugs test
An Egyptianbus driver randomly picked to provide a urine sample for a drugs test provided his wife's instead of his own - and was busted when it transpired she was two months pregnant.
The man was one of a number of bus drivers selected for a random drugs test, but tried to avoid it by not using his own sample, reports the Metro.
The man was asked by bosses to confirm the sample was his own, and when he insisted that it was, he was told: "Congratulations, you're pregnant," reports the NY Daily News.
According to the BBC, Tamer Amin, a presenter on the political talk show Bottom Line, said: "This story despite being funny has several lessons. First, that drugs have become available to many and have become as common as cigarettes. This is a calamity."
The painkiller tramadol has reportedly become popular with drivers providing a cheap - and addictive - energy boost.
A source at the Public Transportation Authority Hospital told the Al-Yawm al-Sabi website that, in future, the transport authority will require a blood test as well as urine tests to prevent people giving fake samples.
The BBC adds that, according to the World Health Organisation, about 12,000 people are killed on Egypt's roads each year, equalling a rate of 42 deaths per 100,000 people.
