The terrifying moment a family car crashed into a lorry at 50mph and was shunted along the motorway has been caught on camera.

The Honda civic is attempting to join the motorway between two lorries but clips the front wing of the rear lorry, which causes it to flip sideways and end up in the lorry's path.

The lorry driver manages to bring his truck and the Honda Civic safely to a standstill on the hard shoulder.

According to the Mirror, the driver of the Civic filed a whiplash claim, blaming the lorry driver for the crash.

But the trucker had a SmartWitness camera fitted to his dashboard, which filmed the whole incident.

The Daily Mail reports that the video proved the Honda driver was responsible and his claim against the HGV driver's insurance was thrown out.

Simon Marsh, managing director of SmartWitness, told the paper: "The camera never lies. Increasing numbers of motorists are using CCTV cameras to protect themselves against fraudulent injury claims."
