An Alton Towers hotel manager was stabbed as he was leaving a charity ball at the resort.

Ian Stevenson, in his 40s, was making his way to his car outside when he was stabbed at around 11pm.

He made his way back into the foyer with blood gushing from two stab wounds to his leg.

He was rushed to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire and he is now said to be in a stable condition.

According to Uttoxeter News, an Alton Towers spokesman said: "I can confirm that an Alton Towers Hotel team member was assaulted on Saturday night whilst returning to his car in the employee car park; he is now recovering at home. The police attended the incident and we continue to help them with their enquiries."

Mr Stevenson had just finished a shift at the Alton Towers hotel, where a cancer charity fundraiser, the Pink Tie Ball, had been taking place.

Police conducted a search of the area, which involved the force's helicopter as well as police dogs, but no arrests were made.

According to the Daily Mail, around 500 Girl Guides were camping in the theme park grounds, and were moved to a 'secure location' as a precaution.

A force spokesman said: "The incident is being investigated by the force's CID department. The investigation is in its infancy but this is a very rare incident in that area."

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 871 of 20 September.
