Woman falls under train in Birmingham: dramatic rescue
A woman was rescued after slipping under a static train at New Street Station in Birmingham this morning (Tuesday).
Emergency services performed the dramatic rescue during commuter rush hour at the busy station, reports West Midlands News.
The frightening incident happened on platform 1A of the station at around 8.40am, bringing part of the the UK's busiest railway station to a temporary standstill.
The woman suffered what was termed a "medical episode" in the terrifying ordeal, reports the Birmingham Mail.
According to ITV, the woman, who is believed to be in her 30s, was trapped for around 40 minutes.
Miraculously, she escaped with only minor injuries.
A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service commented: "Crews were called to reports of a woman who had slipped off the platform down the side of a train.
"On arrival at the scene medics made their way under the train and treated the woman for the effects of a medical episode and also minor injuries.
"The woman's condition was stabilised and she was removed by ambulance crews and the HART (Hazardous Area Response Team) team before being transferred by ambulance to City Hospital for further treatment."
