Britain set for 'mini heatwave' as temps to hit 26C
The UK is set to enjoy a "mini heatwave" this week - with temperatures up to 26C by Thursday.
Weather forecasters predict a temporary end to the recent unsettled weather thanks to the effects of Hurricane Cristobal.
Meteorologist at The Weather Channel UK, Leon Brown, said: "A large area of high pressure will dominate our weather this week and bring some very warm weather to the south from Wednesday to Friday.
"Tuesday is still looking quite cloudy over the south and east of England but plenty of sunshine further north and west with temperatures reaching a warm 20 to 21C.
"Wednesday will start misty with fog patches over central England, eastern Wales and along the Vale of York. Some morning drizzle possible too. It will be mainly fine with sunny spells across much of the UK and Ireland in the afternoon with temperatures up to 24C in the south.
"On Thursday it will become warm and mostly sunny over England and Wales in the afternoon with temperatures 25 to 26C in the south. It will be more cloudy over the northern half of Scotland.
"There's little change for Friday. We can expect it to be warm to very warm over England and Wales, but beware morning fog across eastern England.
"Temperatures will range between 23C to 26C in the afternoon."
And the weekend? Leon added: "The weekend will become more cloudy over eastern England as a north east breeze off the North Sea develops, but western areas should see warm sunshine on Saturday. On Sunday the best of the sunshine looks like it will be across Scotland and north west England with more cloud over eastern England and central areas. Temperatures still pleasant and quite warm reaching the low 20s Celsius.
The first half of September is currently looking like it will be pleasant, adds Leon: "At the moment the first half of September looks like it will be mainly dry and settled under high pressure with temperatures above average.
"The pattern may change though for the second half of September with the jet stream moving back a little further south. This would bring more changeable and a wetter weather to the north and west with temperatures back to near normal.
"There's no sign of any below normal temperatures. The forecast for later in September could change though if we get another hurricane curving north east over the Atlantic towards north west Europe later in the month, and altering circulation."
