A Malaysia Airlines steward has been accused of sexually assaulting a nervous passenger while pretending to comfort her.

The woman was reportedly nervous about the flight after the two recent Malaysia Airlines disasters.

She claimed the steward sat next to her under the pretence of comforting her, before "sexually assaulting" her" during the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Paris on 4 August.

The Australian woman alerted authorities after disembarking at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, reports mashable.com.

A Malaysia Airlines spokesman said in a statement: "The member of staff in question has been detained for questioning by the French police.

"Malaysia Airlines expects and accepts nothing short of the highest standards of conduct from its crew and takes such allegations very seriously.

"We will naturally assist the French authorities as they conduct their investigation and would stress that the safety, comfort and well-being of our passengers are always our highest priority."

The woman had been nervous following two global tragedies for the airline according to the Mirror.

Flight MH370 vanished on 8 March this year with 227 passengers on board while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing and has not yet been found.

In July, all 283 passengers and 15 crew died when MH17 was shot down while flying through Ukrianian airspace.
