September is an excellent time for a holiday. With the children back at school, low temperatures but still enough heat for a beach break AND fewer crowds, it's the perfect month to enjoy a late summer or early autumn getaway.

Europe is a great place for a beach or city break, where you will find shorter queues to the museums and more space to lay your towel on the sand. Temperatures remain in the high 20Cs in most Mediterranean destinations, including Italy, Greece and Spain.

If you're looking for a last-minute escape, there are many holiday deals to be had and cheap flights, as well as plenty of availability in hotels, resorts and camping sites.

Part of the British Isles, the Isle of Man is a delightful place to visit in September, when it is still warm enough to enjoy walks and bike rides. For somewhere further flung, catch the end of the dry season in Bali where the average temperature is 27C in September. If you didn't get to visit Brazil during the World Cup, travel in September as is is prime time for wildlife spotting, as well as relaxing on the beach. It is also the cheapest and least crowded time to visit the country.
