British brothers stabbed in row over sunbeds in Turkey

Two British brothers thought they were going to die after being stabbed by a crazed fellow holidaymaker at their Turkey hotel swimming pool - in a row over sun beds.

Danny and Ben Slade said they were attacked in front of other guests at the Isis Hotel and Spa in Gumbet.

Speaking to the Mirror, Danny said: "It was like being in a horror film. I can't sleep over it. I keep thinking about what else I could have done or how much worse it could have been. I feel lucky to be alive."

The man had become enraged that the boys, who were on holiday with their parents, had earlier reserved sun beds.

Ben told the man he could take two of them, but he came back with a knife and started stabbing him in the leg while shouting "I'm killing you".

Danny then intervened and pushed the man away, when he began stabbing him too.

Ben suffered five wounds to his legs, arms and feet, while Danny, an architect, said he cheated death as the knife missed his heart and lungs by just 2cm.

The family, from Middlesex, flew back home three days later. Mum Mary, 49, was not at the pool at the time, but said seeing her children injured was her "worst nightmare", and added: "It didn't just ruin the holiday, which was our first holiday all together as a family for nine years, it's going to stay with us for the rest of our lives."

The news comes just a couple of months after a Leicester teenager was left fighting for his life after being stabbed at the Turkish holiday resort of Marmaris.

Declan McNulty, 18, suffered damage to his stomach, liver, and pancreas after the attack in June. He had been on holiday with his parents and brother, and has been told there will be no long-term damage.

According to the Leicester Mercury, he said: "A girl who was passing by saved me. She was a nurse on holiday who started compressing the wound.

"If it hadn't been for her I think I would have bled out. I owe my life to the surgeon who operated on me."

While in hospital, Declan made friends with another British tourist who had also been stabbed in the holiday resort earlier that month.

According to the Daily Mail, Callum Copson, 19, was stabbed in a shop in a row over his girlfriend's faulty handbag.

Doctors saved him after working on him for 10 hours, and said he was lucky to be alive.
