Cyclist in head-on collision with car in Slough

A cyclist was lucky to escape with his life after an horrific head-on crash with a car - which was all caught on camera.

Patrick Knetemann, 34, was cycling in Slough, Berks, when he was involved in a crash with a car that catapulted him over the handlebars and onto the bonnet.

He smashed the windscreen before being thrown over the roof and landing on the ground. He suffered fractures to two cervical discs in his neck and bruising to his upper body.

According to the Metro, Patrick said: "He came out of nowhere. The impact was so quick I had no time to stop. I hit the windscreen with my shoulder and it shattered straight away – that shows how fast and hard he hit me.'

The whole thing was caught on film by the bullet cam on his handlebars.

According to the Mirror, the driver of the Volkswagen Golf sped off, but an off-duty paramedic came to Patrick's aid and he was rushed to Wexham Park Hospital.

Police are investigating the incident.

The news comes just days after a British cyclist has been killed in a head-on collision with a British motorist in the French Alps.

Joe Pether, 53, was cycling down the famous steep descent from the resort of Alpe d'Huez on a stretch of road known for its 21 hairpin bends that is also often part of the Tour de France route.

He crashed head-on into a fellow British tourist on one of the sharp bends at 7.05pm on Sunday evening.

A local police spokeswoman told the Daily Mail: "An investigation has been opened. We heard from witnesses on Monday morning but the inquiry is ongoing

"Tragically the victim died at the scene.
