New York News A fishing boat crashed head-on into runway approach lights at New York's La Guardia Airport on Sunday after the captain deserted the wheel for a "three-way sex romp".

The incident reportedly highlighted a security issue, as police were unable to reach the boat to determine whether it was a threat for about 30 minutes.

There was a Port Authority vessel tied up at a nearby dock, but there was no crew available to operate it, because the PA had decided operate its navy only during daylight hours in a bid to save money.

According to the Mirror, a Port Authority Police Department spokesman said: "If the love boat crew had been "terrorists with bad intentions, they could have easily succeeded.

"If they had hand-held rockets, they would have had plenty of time to fire at planes."

Boat owner Craig Gallo, 51, and James Benenato, 60, met Mary Ann Belson, 60, on a night out in Queens on Saturday evening.

Neither of the two men had met Belson before.

Gallo invited them on board his boat, and before long things got a little heated.

But the threesome ended abruptly when the boat crashed into a lighting stanchion at the end of Runway 22.

Ms Belson is being treated for a possible broken nose and jaw, while Gallo suffered minor facial injuries. Benenato was unhurt, reports the Daily Mail.

A source told the NY Post that "a consensual three-way sex endeavour was going on", before the crash, adding: "There's a moral here: If you're feeling amorous aboard a boat, I suggest you drop your anchor before you drop your pants."

The NY Post added that his boating and motor vehicle licenses would be revoked for allegedly operating the fishing vessel while drunk.
