Rowan Atkinson helped save the day when a McLaren driver crashed into a tree in Tuscany, Italy.

The Blackadder star was part of a convoy of motor enthusiasts driving behind the US businessman, before he careered off the road and hit a tree, reports The Sun.

The driver lost control of the red and white vehicle as the convoy was moving between the towns of Saline di Volterra and Pomarance.

Atkinson immediately rushed to the aid of the man, who was airlifted to a hospital in Pisa with non life-threatening injuries.

The car did not, however, come off so well, being left flipped upside down in an olive grove.

According to the Daily Mail, the crash comes three years after the comedian himself crashed his own McLaren F1 into a tree after hitting a slippery patch of road in Haddon near his home in Northamptonshire.

The Mr Bean star careered across a carriageway and smashed into a tree, causing the car to burst into flames.

The paper adds that, while he escaped with minor injuries, the car repair bill added up to a whopping £910,000, the biggest ever recorded in Britain.

Atkinson, who is worth an estimated £71 million, paid £640,000 for the car in 1997 with the proceeds of his first Mr Bean film, reports the Daily Telegraph.

It is thought a McLaren F1 is now worth up to £3.5 million.
