Speeding widow claimed dead husband was driving
A woman who was caught speeding claimed her late husband was driving and was only found out when she applied for a passport in his name with a photo of a man she had met in Spain.
Catherine Goodwin got away with two speeding fines by saying her husband, who had died a year earlier, was behind the wheel.
According to the Derby Telegraph, civil servants alerted police when they received the passport application.
Alex Wolfson, prosecuting, said: "The DVLA didn't realise he had passed away until these matters were drawn to their attention.
"Somewhat bizarrely and for no apparent reason, this defendant later made an application for a British passport in the name of her late husband, who passed away in 2007."
The Daily Express reports that Mrs Goodwin was jailed for six months at Derby Crown Court for perverting the course of justice and making fraudulent passport applications.
Goodwin was the primary carer for her husband who died of cancer. When he passed away she discovered he was in debt and suffered depression.
