A 26-year-old British man died in a jet ski accident in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday.

The man, believed to be from Bolton, died instantly in the accident at Al Mamzar beach park in Sharjah, around 30 miles from Dubai.

Manchester Evening News reports that the accident involved another jet ski, belonging to a German national, also 26.

The Foreign Office said: "We can confirm the death of a British national in Sharjah on May 8. We are providing consular assistance to the family at this sad time."

Gulf News reports that the German national was taken to Al Kuwaiti hospital after suffering minor injuries.

Police urged beachgoers to follow instructions to avoid fatal accidents and warned swimmers to avoid areas of the sea with high waves and strong currents.

In March, a British tourist died while jet skiing at a popular tourist resort in Thailand after his throat struck a speedboat anchor rope, local authorities said.

Stephen Campbell, 38, died from injuries suffered while riding the jet ski in Pattaya.

The family of Campbell, a barber from Blackpool, had to raise £30,000 to fly his body back to the UK as he was not fully insured, Phuket Wan reported.

Mr Campbell was reportedly on a three-week holiday in Thailand with a friend and his girlfriend.
