Where is the best place in the world for a beach holiday? We asked our Facebook fans to tell us their favourite beaches and boy, did they deliver!

Feeling the sand between your toes, the smell of fresh sea air and taking a dip in the cool ocean are a few of life's greatest (and simplest) pleasures that any traveller can appreciate. Whether choosing a perfect spot to build sandcastles with the kids, play beach games with friends or sunbathe next to a loved one, you've found some superb beaches for creating wonderful holiday memories.

From the UK's 'most beautiful beach' Rhossili Bay in Wales, to iconic Bondi Beach in Australia, you guys have travelled near and far to discover the world's best beaches.

Some of you like your beaches with powdery white sand, others prefer the rugged and wild kind, but one thing's for sure - you certainly know a good beach when you see one!

The UK beaches that you voted the best in the world include Porthkidney in Cornwall, Nairn in Inverness and Barafundle Bay in Pembrokeshire.

Popular beaches we weren't surprised to see as your favourites were California's cool Huntington Beach, dreamy Governor's Beach in the Turks and Caicos and sun soaked Daytona Beach in Florida.

And some of the lesser-known stretches of sand we'll be adding to our beach bucket list are surfer's paradise Maracaipe in Porto de Galinhas, Brazil, picturesque Point O' Sand in the Cayman Islands and Malta's Armier Bay.
