British pensioner arrested in Spain for child sex attacks

A British pensioner wanted since the late 1980s over claims that he sexually abused children from a church choir has been arrested on the Costa del Sol in Spain.

Police in Malaga said Colin John Brown, 85, was held in Benalmadena on Monday under a European Arrest Warrant was issued..

It is alleged that he chose his victims from among members of a London church choir, and committed a series of sex crimes. Source: Press Association.

At the time he had responsibility for providing transport for children aged six to 14.

Spanish police said in a statement, which did not name Brown: "The arrested man was one of the members of a paedophile ring which committed several sex offences from 1970 until the late 1980s when he left Britain.

"He is accused of transporting children aged six to 14, members of a London church choir, and choosing several of these youngsters as his victims."

The warrant relates to seven sex offences and was issued by judicial authorities in the UK

The fugitive had been feared dead after investigators lost track of him, said police.
