Scottish woman dies in ski accident in Swiss Alps after falling 1000ft

A Scottish scientist has died following a 1000ft fall while skiing in the Swiss Alps.

Catriona Neath was on a skiing holiday with her fiance Peter Davies, 34, when the accident happened in the Bernina range, considered one of the most spectacular ranges in Europe.

The 32-year-old was rushed to hospital but died the next day, reports the Daily Record.

Catriona was born in Switzerland but grew up in Edinburgh.

According to the Daily Record, Catriona and Peter were both outdoor sports enthusiasts.

Catriona's Facebook page features photos and videos of previous skiing trips.

Catriona lived in Sheffield and working as an environmental scientist with multinational design and consulting company, Arup.

She also did humanitarian work in the Ashanti region of Ghana.

Aid charity Ashanti Development said "We are all so very sorry to hear this news."

A Foreign Office spokeswoman added "We are providing consular assistance at this difficult time."

Catriona's sister Susannah, who lives in Switzerland, and her dad John, 67, travelled to the town of Chur following the tragedy on April 10, reports the Herald Scotland.

Her father spoke of the tragedy saying "This has been a very difficult time for the whole family. We're still in shock. I don't think it will sink in until after the funeral."

Catriona's funeral will be held at Mortonhall Crematorium in Edinburgh on Saturday.
