Michael Schumacher out of coma rumours are fake

Fake reports of Formula One legend Michael Schumacher coming out of a coma following a ski accident in France have gone viral.

The 45-year-old remains in a medically induced coma but on Friday, RT's Spanish edition reported that his manager Sabine Kehm had said he had emerged from the coma and recognised his wife.

Unfortunately this report was untrue. According to Autoblog, Formula One reporter Nicola Pohl, of Bild, tweeted: "Schumacher awake? Sorry, but those rumors from Spain apparently not true. Kehm just texted me she hadn't confirmed anything to RTL".

Although the only news of the rumour being fake has come from Pohl, Schumacher's family nor his manager Kehm have released a statement saying that he is out of the coma.

Bild has also been one of the most accurate sources for reports of the racing driver's condition.

Several days ago, Kehm said that he appears to be recovering slowly.

"Michael is making progress. He is showing moments of consciousness and wakefulness. We remain confident," she said, according to German media.

"There are moments when he is awake and moments when he is conscious, which make us happy and give us great courage. Of course I am not a doctor, but medically, there is a distinction between being awake and being conscious, the latter meaning there is an ability to interact with his surroundings."

"I don't want to disclose details out of respect for the family, but we have no doubt at all in the abilities of the doctors treating Michael, they are experts in their field."

Earlier this week it was reported that Schumacher is being sued for allegedly causing a motorbike crash in Spain before his ski accident in France - despite the racing driver still lying in a coma.
