Michael Schumacher being sued for 'causing motorbike crash' in Spain
Formula One star Michael Schumacher is being sued for allegedly causing a motorbike crash in Spain before his ski accident in France - despite the racing driver still lying in a coma.
An unnamed Spanish biker has filed a complaint claiming the 45-year-old knocked him off his bike after failing to give way at a roundabout in Bormujos near Seville.
According to the Daily Mail, the motorcyclist is claiming compensation for a broken wrist and damage to his watch, clothes and motorbike in the incident he says happened on 17 November 2013.
As well as Schumacher, the car hire company that rented him an Audi A4 and its insurers have been named in the complaint, the Daily Mirror reports.
A trial will only take place if the insurers contest the claim and Schumacher will not be required to attend.
Last week, it was reported that International Automobile Federation president Jean Todt said the racing legend is still "fighting" for his life.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the World Touring Car Championship race in Marrakech, Todt said: "I see him very often and he's still fighting. He's fighting and we can only hope and pray that it will improve over the future.
"It has been a tragedy this accident. A tragedy for Michael, a tragedy for his family.
"Michael is in very good hands with fantastic dedicated doctors in the hospital in Grenoble. Obviously, I'm very close to him, to the family."
His manager Sabine Kehm says his condition is improving.
"He shows moments of consciousness and awakening," she said earlier this month. "We are on his side, together with the team of the hospital in Grenoble, and we keep remaining confident."
Michael Schumacher was put in a medically induced coma on 29 December following an accident where he hit his head on a rock while skiing on holiday at French resort Meribel.
