A dad of two who was battling cancer died while on holiday in Tenerife.

Darren Sebastian Finch, 41, from Derbyshire, was described by his wife as a brave adventurer who loved camping, climbing and travelling.

According to the Matlock Mercury, Nicola said: "He was an amazing person who was always so positive. He loved being around people – he was definitely the life and soul of the party. I miss him like crazy but, like so many people, I'm honoured to have known Darren. I have so many happy memories of him. I'll always miss Darren."

The former carpenter was diagnosed with cancer in November 2012 and kept the illness at bay but it returned in December 2013, Chad reports.

The Spanish island saw another tragedy earlier this week when two British women drowned in the sea while trying to rescue their children who were swept away by a wave.

Emergency services were alerted when the women and children were seen getting into difficulty in the water off the coast of Playa Paraiso at the southwest of the island.

Tourists Barathi Ruvijumar, 39, and Uma Ramalingam, 42, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The two children, aged 10 and 14 survived, along with a third woman, aged 38.

The 10-year-old boy was taken to hospital with hypothermia while the second child was treated for minor bruising.
