Myanmar is to receive the award for World's Best Tourist Destination for 2014 by the European Union Council, according to media reports.

The award is for boosting the country's tourism industry and promoting Myanmar's unique cultural heritage attractions, India Times reports, via New Light.

Business Standard reports that the award is based on ethics from the tourism industry, safety for tourists and preservation of cultural sites.

The World's Best Tourist Destination Award was introduced in 2007 and is one of the highest accolades in the travel and tourism industry.
