A British man has been killed after his quad bike was hit by a truck in Australia.
Scott Thompson, 27, a former soldier from Nelson in Lancashire, had been travelling the world with his girlfriend Sami Allott, also 27.
Police said he was hit when he pulled out into the path of the lorry near Bungador, Victoria, where he had been working on a farm.
Speaking to The Sun, his mum Lynne, 54, said: "Sami rang me, just screaming down the phone. I was gutted. I still can't believe it.
"He was a daredevil, thought he had nine lives. He was a joker who loved life."
Mr Thompson joined the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment in 2010. He had been stationed at Weeton Barracks, near Blackpool, and served as a Kingsman in Cyprus before leaving last year to go travelling.
Miss Allott and Mr Thompson had visited Dubai, Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia, where they spent two weeks working with orang-utans, before heading to Australia.
His sister Kirsty, 24, told the Lancashire Telegraph: "He was always smiling, he just had a warm face. He looked after me all the time."
