A British father has told how his dream family holiday in Mexico turned into a nightmare after his 15-year-old daughter was allegedly sexually assaulted at their luxury resort.

The father, who has not been named, took his partner and three children to Catalonia Yucatan Beach Resort and Spa in Mexico for a New Year break, which turned out to be
a holiday from hell, reports The Argus.

With four days of the holiday left to go, the family's 19-year-old son went out to the resort's nightclub, leaving his sister in the room they shared.

When he came back, his sister was allegedly being assaulted by a Canadian man, who fled the scene via the balcony, with her brother in pursuit.

A fight broke out between them, which alerted the parents and the resort security, who, the family say, did not contact police.

The father said it was two days after the incident that the police were informed, only after they went to the British Consulate.

He told The Argus: "We weren't able to phone police themselves because the hotel phones weren't registered.

"The rep said the hotel was dealing with it but the hotel staff were just shrugging their shoulders.

"It was the worst experience of my life. I am convinced that there could have been some sort of justice but they left a 15-year-old thinking its normal for a man to act like that."

A Thomas Cook spokesman said that they offered every support upon finding out about the alleged incident, including counselling and a transfer to another hotel.
