Google sorry for accidentally naming Berlin street after Adolf Hitler

Google has apologised after a Berlin road was accidentally renamed after Nazi leader Adolf Hitler on the Google Maps service.

The Guardian reports that the company quickly took down the name when the error was discovered on Friday.

Google said it was not sure how the error was made and added: "We apologise for this mistake."

Many streets and squares were named after Hitler during his dictatorship between 1933 and 1945.

According to AP, the intersection, Theodor-Heuss-Platz, is located where the Nazis envisioned Berlin's main east-west axis for a redesign of the city that was never finished.
