A tiger has attacked and killed a keeper who was feeding it at China's Shanghai Zoo, according to the zoo's official website.

The keeper was attacked by a South China tiger in the zoo's tiger breeding field at 10:30 a.m on Tuesday, according to the website.

The Shanghai Green and Urban Appearance Bureau, which manages the zoo, has sent medical experts to investigate the site and confirm the feeder's death.

This year has seen a number of incidents involving tigers attacking keepers. In July, a zookeeper was mauled by tigers at a closed Italian zoo. And in September, a Siberian tiger attacked and killed a keeper in Muenster, Germany.
