Teen's ear nearly sliced off after terrifying bear attack in US

A teenager in Pennsylvania has told of her terror after being attacked by a bear when she inadvertently got between the animal and its cubs.

Camille Bomboy, 18, nearly lost her ear and was left with large gashes to her head and arms after the attack, which only stopped when her stepfather fired his rifle in an attempt to scare off the animal.

Michael Courter had taken Camille deer-hunting, along with his son, Kyle Courter. The incident occurred when the two men were driving deer towards Camille, and they spotted several black bear cubs, according to the Daily Mail.

Mr Courter said he "can't get her scream out of my head", reports the NY Daily News.

Camille's mum Krista Courter told ABC News: "My daughter is alive and it is a pure miracle.

"It's going to be a long healing process for her, but luckily there was nothing life threatening."

The site adds the Camille said she "prayed" during the attack: "I covered my eyes and screamed and prayed and hoped everything would be OK," she reportedly told her mother.

Krista added that it looked like Krista "was massacred" when she returned home after the attack.

Although the north central region of Pennsylvania has a large black bear population attacks are rare, and it is believed local corn fields attracted the bear and her cubs to the area.
