Amazing video: Mountain goats miraculously survive French Alps avalanche

Updated

A group of nine mountain goats had an extremely lucky escape after surviving a huge avalanche in the French Alps.

According to the Mirror, the incident was captured on camera by skiers at the Le Roc de la Peche near Pralognan-la-Vanoise.

To the horror of the skiers recording the footage, five of the goats make a run for it, while four make the slightly stranger decision to stay where they are.

It is thought the four animals are doomed, but to the relief of everyone watching, each goat emerges from the snow, and manages to make it down the hill to rejoin the rest of the group.

According to the Independent, the decline in numbers of wolves and other large predators has seen avalanches become one of the most common causes of death for the Alpine Chamois, which are slightly larger than Roe deer found in the UK.
