A mystery Ukrainian billionaire has snapped up the disused Brompton Rd Tube station for an eye-watering £50million.

The station was on the Piccadilly Line and once housed Winston Churchill's anti-aircraft ops HQ during World War II.

The businessman bought the station from the Ministry of Defence, who purchased it in 1934 for £22,000 to use as a training facility, reports The Sun.

He was the winner the of a fierce bidding war with members of the Qatari Royal Family, and now plans to turn the station into luxury flats.

The station, situated near Harrods, opened in 1906 but closed in 1934 due to lack of passengers, according to the Daily Mail.
