Chris Hemsworth and family rescued in catamaran drama off Canary Islands

Updated

Chris Hemsowrth and his pregnant wife and 18-month-old daughter had to be rescued by coastguards when their catamaran ran aground on Sunday night.

The Thor actor is currently in the Canary Islands shooting the new Ron Howard film, In The Heart Of The Sea.

Chris, his wife Elsa Pataky, and their baby India Rose were part of a group of eight people taking a trip to Playa de Santiago on a private catamaran hired by the film's production company.

According to the Daily Mail, they got into trouble just after 8pm close to San Sebastian.

All passengers were safely taken to shore after a lifeboat, coastguard patrol and helicopter were sent to the scene.

A source told the Metro: "Nobody was hurt but any kind of rescue at sea is a scary event, especially for a pregnant woman with a young child."

Chris' new film, ironically, tells the story of a ship that sinks after being struck by a sperm whale.
