A 61-year-old Briton and his family are missing in the Philippines after going on holiday in the islands before Typhoon Haiyan struck.

Colin Bembridge was staying with his Filipino partner Maybelle, 35, and their three-year-old daughter Victoria near Tacloban when the devastating storm hit.

According to Channel 4 News, the pharmacist, from Grimsby, was visiting his partner's family and had rented a beach house in Baybay, one of the ravaged coastal villages.

"I just want to know whether they are dead or whether they were blown by the winds," said Maybelle's mother Lydia Go, 79.

AFP reports that their beach house was found destroyed and games consoles belonging to Victoria were discovered.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are aware of reports that a British national was killed by Typhoon Haiyan. We are urgently looking into these reports."
