A British Airways flight attendant who was dumped by her pilot lover flew into a drunken rage and attacked him with a broken glass.

Frances Smith, 36, received a text from her lover saying the affair was over.

According to The Sun, she broke a wine glass and thrust it into the pilot's jaw, leaving a three-inch wound.

Cardiff Crown Court heard how the pair were out drinking near Cardiff Airport when they started arguing.

Prosecutor David Pugh said: "There were then text messages between them and he said, 'Leave me alone, we're finished'. She became intoxicated and emotional. She struck him with a broken glass to his face."

The Daily Telegraph reports that Smith later confessed to police: "I did it, I'm really sorry, I've done a stupid thing."

The couple were reportedly in a relationship for 18 months.

Smith was sentenced to a year in prison suspended for two years.
