The touching moment firefighters in Texas saved a dog from deadly storm waters was captured on camera.

The picture, taken by photographer Preston Culver, shows firefighters Matt Harvey and Michael Cooper rescuing the dog from the floodwaters.

It was posted on Austin Fire Department Facebook page, with the caption: "We don't just rescue two-legged victims...we love our four-legged friends as well. Two of AFD's finest-Firefighter Matt Harvey and Firefighter Michael Cooper, both from B shift-show just what that means."

The fire department has been battling widespread flooding in central Texas after an autumn storm brought 15 inches of rain to the region.

Speaking to The Huffington Post, Austin Fire Department spokesperson Michelle Tanzola said the firefighters' efforts are emblematic of the department's motto 'Our Mission Goes Beyond Our Name'.

Tanzola added that at least 1,100 homes were evacuated due to the flooding but no injuries were reported.
