Bear hunting season in Maryland, America has closed after the six-day season and 94 black bears have reportedly been killed in the western part of the state.

According to NBC, 70 bears were killed in Garrett County and 24 were killed in Allegany County.

A 51-year ban on bear hunting was lifted in Maryland in 2004.

This year, 748 hunters participated and 3,504 hunters applied for a permit.

The Washington Post reports that at least one of the bears killed weighed almost 181kg.

19 people were charged for violations, including failing to wear fluorescent orange and hunting black bears with the aid of bait.
