Cute video: The platypus that loves getting a tummy tickle

Updated

There's nothing like a cute animal video to brighten up a rainy Monday - and what could be cuter than an a platypus enjoying a good tickle?

A visitor recorded their heart-warming experience at the Healesville Sanctuary in Australia.

The woman, a member of Cute Creatures Great And Small posted the clip on YouTube, writing: "This beautiful platypus loved playing in the water and loved a tickle! She was so friendly and ate food right out of my hand!

"There is only one place you can do this in the world and that's at Healesville Sanctuary."

The platypus is an iconic symbol of Australia, and the animal emblem of the state of New South Wales. It is a semi-aquatic mammal endemic to eastern Australia, including Tasmania.

The animals are one of five species of mammals that lay eggs instead of giving birth. It is also one of the few venomous mammals, with the male platypus having a spur on the hind foot that delivers a venom capable of causing severe pain to humans.

But this cute ticklee would never do that, of course...
