Video: Sydney engulfed in smoke as bush fires rage on

This time lapse video shows how smoke has engulfed the city Sydney in the worst bush fire to hit the Australian city in ten years.

The 9News video shows how burning embers blew across the city, shrouding the Sydney Opera House in ash.

Hundreds of homes in the surrounding areas are feared to be lost from the blaze as fierce winds pushed smoke from more than 90 separate fires into the city.

Worst-hit areas include the Blue Mountains.

Fire chief Rob Rogers said the situation was the worst he had seen for a decade. "It was a very dry winter - we're not even a month into spring and we've already got this," he said, speaking in the Daily Express.
