A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a pensioner was stabbed to death at a pub during his holiday in popular tourist town Sidmouth, Devon.

Police were called to the Black Horse Inn on Thursday night and the 71-year-old died at the scene, despite efforts of officers and paramedics.

Devon & Cornwall Police believe the man was visiting the area. His next of kin are currently being sought.

The 41-year-old-local man was arrested at the scene and is in police custody in Exeter.

A police spokesman said: "We believe this is an isolated incident. We understand news of this incident will be troubling for many in the Sidmouth area and to reassure local people there will be some extra officers on patrol in the town."
