A British Superbike star has been stranded in Dubai more than six months after his wife died during their honeymoon because police will not return his passport.

Sean Emmett, 43, was questioned after Abbie Emmett, 27, fell 50ft to her death from their hotel while looking for her wedding ring in February.

The BBC reports that Mr Emmett, from Surrey, said he had his passport taken away and did not know why it had not been returned after her death was recorded as suicide.

The couple were married in Cape Town, South Africa before travelling to Dubai on a 48-hour stopover.

Police in Dubai believe there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Abbie's death.

In March, it was reported that the motorcycling champion was arrested for being drunk when he went to fill out paperwork at a police station relating to his wife's death.

He was fined £350 for drinking alcohol without a licence and his passport was confiscated.

Speaking to The Independent, Mr Emmett said: "I've been quiet because I wanted to do things the right way. But enough is enough. I'm effectively locked in the world's biggest open prison and I can't go on."

Around 4,000 people have signed an online petition to the British Government to bring the biker home.
